Oliver Miller was born in Sydney 1975 into a family of musicians and started his musical studies in percussion and piano at the age of 6.
At 10 years old Oliver began lessons in cello with Colleen McMeekin. Oliver attended the Sydney Conservatorium High School with studies on all 3 instruments.
After majoring in music for his Higher School Certificate Oliver studied cello with Lois Simpson at the Australian National University and toured Europe with the Australian Youth Orchestra and Camerata Orchestra, playing as principal cello, and also attended the Australian National Academy.
Oliver travelled to Amsterdam studying with Wim Straesser (solo cellist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra). He then completed his Bachelor of Music Degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying cello with Susan Blake. Over this period he also undertook lessons in jazz piano from various teachers of the Sydney Conservatorium.
Oliver has worked with the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Sinfonia Australis, and Orchestra of the Antipodes. Recently Oliver played cello in the ABC recording of the Handel Messiah. He has also further pursued his interest in Baroque and Classical cello with recent lessons with Danny Yeadon (of Florilegium), and in addition teaches cello at St Aloysius College, Kirribilli.
